The AHCSENC MissionTo identify affordable housing needs and to coordinate individual, community and government efforts toward increasing the supply and opportunity for affordable housing. HistoryIn early 2003 a roundtable discussion was held among the City of Wilmington Community Development, Wilmington Housing Finance & Development, Habitat for Humanity, Cape Fear CDC and AME Zion Housing Development, all local non-profit developers (CHDOs). It was decided that there was a need to form an Affordable Housing Coalition. The idea grew from the fact that a Coalition would facilitate non-profit agencies interested in homelessness/affordable housing issues to work together on common goals and issues. The participants felt that a Coalition would be proactive rather than reactive and would present a united front to the community at large. The Coalition became incorporated as of May 2005 and its formal by-laws were adopted in September 2005. Past Chairs include Rev. Jones of AME Zion Church, Gwen Flowers of G. Flowers Realty, Louis Rogers of Self Help Credit Union, Jonathan Barfield of Barfield & Associates REALTORS®, Barbara Birkenheuer of Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity, Pam Rancke of BB&T Mortgage, Carey Disney Ricks of Cape Fear Public Utilities, Toronya Ezell of AMEZ Housing CDC and this year’s chair, Lisa Burton.
